Dear Shannon,

Stephen and I had an amazing weekend at Grassdale. We got there Friday afternoon, left our bags at the hotel and went straight to the beach. We went snorkeling for about an hour, then we took a stroll along the beach up to 2nd Avenue.

The shops were still open, so of course we did some souvenir shopping (I got you a nice shirt!) From there we took a cab to the hotel, showered and left again for a great
seafood meal.

On Saturday we had a light breakfast at the hotel. Then, we went to the beach again but this time I relaxed on a chair all morning. Stephen had a quick swim and then came back to join me. You won’t recognize us when you see us – we got great tans! In the afternoon we rented a sailboat and went sailing.

On Sunday we hung out by the pool at the hotel till noon, and took a cab to the shops again. On the way there we stopped by another seafood place for a quick bite. I wanted to go shopping, but Stephen wanted to go to the beach again, so we parted ways but later met up again around 6.

We had just enough time to go back to the hotel, pack our bags and check out. It was a fun trip!

THE LAST PAGE-TURNER I READ

A nice book I read not too long ago (não faz muito tempo) was A is for Alibi, a mystery by Sue Grafton. This book is the first in the so-called (assim chamada) alphabet series written by Grafton – the second one in the series is B is for Burglar, the third is C is for Corpse and so on.

Kinsey Millhone is the lead character (personagem principal): she’s a young private investigator who’s tough (durona) and independent. The stories are set in the 80s (se passam nos anos 80) and therefore Kinsey has to solve her cases (solucionar seus casos) without any help (sem ajuda nenhuma) from digital devices or the Internet. If you think that makes (se você acha que isso torna) the story boring, you’d be wrong: the book was a real page-turner (livro que você não consegue parar de ler) and once I began reading I couldn’t put it down (não conseguia deixar o livro de lado).

It was also a fast read (livro que você lê rápido) – I think I finished it in three days. All in all, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good detective novel. I got the book in paperback through Amazon.com – you can buy a used copy there pretty cheap, and they ship internationally.

Language and identity are two expressions that need to be explained. English is the official language in several countries, Chinese is the language spoken by Chinese people and Danish is how Danes speak. But languages could also be described as different ways of talking due to social background, education, profession, age and sex. A person’s language is connected to his social situation. People speak differently also because they belong to different social worlds. Identity can signify the very special characteristic of a person, something that makes him differ from others.

100 texts a day? That's the norm for many US teens.

A third of teenage texters send a 100 texts a day, according to the Pew Research Center. Meanwhile, 64 percent of parents admit to regularly perusing the contents of their kid's cell phone.

Sure, you knew teenagers sent a lot of text messages.
